My professional career started in education progressing to senior academic management positions. This included teaching, research, third stream and consultancy work involving collaborative and international programme development. I have been a Project Management and Education Consultant since 2011 alongside work on event management and social enterprise activities.
I studied at the University of Plymouth and gained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Computing & Informatics and completed a Ph.D. on 'Reinforcement Learning in Intelligent Control: A Biologically-Inspired Approach to the Relearning Problem'. I am a Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Registered Project Professional (RPP) and a Member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
I held senior academic leadership positions at the University of Northampton and the University of East London before becoming Head of Department: Business & Computing at the University of Wales, Newport now the University of South Wales (USW).
I now focus on being the Creative Director and 'Omnipreneur' for DBT Enterprises Ltd undertaking primarily consultancy work, and occasional Visiting Lecturer work when required. I am a Trustee at a charity - Trinity Childcare and Family Centre - based in Aberfan.
I have been actively involved in the development of the project management profession working with the Association for Project Management (APM). I am currently a Registered Project Professional (RPP 2nd Edition) Assessor, and was Lead/Verifier and Assessor (RPP 1st Edition) from July 2011 to July 2017 working with other verifiers and assessors to assure and enhance the quality of the RPP designation. I am a former Chair of the APM Education Network Advisory Group (ENAG) that is now the APM Education Network, and I continue to work on educational initiatives.
From 2007-2013, I was on the committee of the BCS Project Management Specialist Group (PROMS-G) including as Regional Coordinator for Wales and Event Development Manager. I also helped establish and coordinated the PROMS-G social media channels e.g. the LinkedIn group and the 'Project Eye' blog.

My other interests include football (including as a coach at Treharris Athletic Western FC), tennis, travel and tourism, creative industries and film, darts, wine production and tourism, and the delivery of large-scale sporting mega-events.
